Campcraft Test For Secondary 3 Cadets

Secondary 3s

As you would probably know, next Friday (11/2) is your campcraft test. These are the components that you would be marked on:
  • Practical
  • Theory
For the practical section, you would need to know how to tie the 8 basic knots and 4 lashings. For those who are still unsure, they are: Thumb Knot, Slip Knot, Figure-of-eight, Reef Knot, Sheep Shank, Bowline, Sheet Bend and Fishermen's Knot. The lashings are: Round Lash, Square Lash, Gyn Lash and Shear Lash. For the knots, you will be assessed based on your ability to tie the knot as well as your speed in tying the knot. For lashings, you be marked on timing, neatness and tension.

For the knots theory section, you will need to know 3 uses of each of the 8 basic knots. For the lashings theory, you will need to know 1 use of each of the 4 lashings as well as 6 other uses of any lashing. Note, you cannot repeat any use that you mentioned earlier.

The theory information can be found in the cadets' manual. Please spend ample time studying for this test as well as practicing the various knots and lashings. There would NOT be any time allocated for revision on the day itself. For those who did not come down for the last training, you have a choice of whether you want to take the test or not.

Study hard and I am sure you can pass this test!
